Dr. Mathias Gaertner is a German lawyer with a strong multi jurisdiction track record in international M&A, litigation, IP, and compliance. He currently serves as General Counsel and Company Secretary of ABB Ltd, where he joined the Group Executive Committee in November 2024. Prior to ABB, he held the equivalent role at Holcim Ltd from 2021 to 2024, serving as General Counsel and a member of its Executive Committee. Before that, he spent a decade at Honeywell, most recently as General Counsel of Honeywell Building Technologies, having held successive General Counsel roles across the company’s EMEA and North American operations. Earlier in his career, he practised law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom in New York and Frankfurt, and at Baker and McKenzie in Dusseldorf. Mathias holds a law degree and a PhD from the University of Munster and is admitted to the German bar.
