Children and Youth International (CYI)

With the adoption of Agenda 21, the MGCY was created in 1992, as part of the major group's stakeholder engagement mechanism during the first United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. Today, MGCY serves as the formal engagement mechanism for young people in the UN and engages in over 50 intergovernmental and 150 multi-stakeholder processes. The legal and financial entity of the MGCY is Children and Youth International Inc., which is governed by a board of directors elected by the MGCY constituency. The Sendai Stakeholders Children and Youth Constituency (also known as Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group) was incorporated within MGCY in 2013 and since then has been the formal engagement and facilitation mechanism for engagement of young people in the work of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). SSCYC has since its creation worked on a series of initiatives to enhance collaboration of and within the UNDRR Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM). The areas of SSCYC work.
